LIght Alternatives to the Everyday Sandwich

Cantaloupe Wrapped in Turkey and Bacon
• 1 small cantaloupe cut in half, seeds removed
• 1 pound thinly sliced turkey breast
• 1 10-ounce package of ready-to-eat bacon
• toothpicks
Directions: Cut each cantaloupe half into 6-8 wedges and remove the rind. Cut the turkey breast slices in half lengthwise. Layer a piece of bacon onto one slice of turkey, then wrap one cantaloupe wedge with the turkey and bacon. The bacon should be on the outside of the wrap for appearance. Secure with a toothpick.

Cherry Tomatoes Wrapped with Cream Cheese
• 24 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
• 6 slices of soft wheat bread
• 2 ounces soft cream cheese with chives
• toothpicks
Directions: Remove the crusts from the bread and
flatten each piece with your hands until it is very thin.  Spread the bread with chive cream cheese and cut the bread into 1” wide strips. Wrap a cherry tomato
with the bread, making sure to keep the cream cheese towards the tomato. Secure with a toothpick.
Pineapple Chunks Wrapped in Ham
• 1 20-ounce can pineapple chunks in
juice, drained
• ½ pound thinly sliced honey ham
• 10 ounce jar maraschino cherries,
drained (optional)
• toothpicks
Directions: Cut the ham slices into ½” wide strips,
then cut each strip in half so that it is about 4” in length.  Wrap each pineapple chunk with a ham
slice and secure with a toothpick. Push one cherry onto the toothpick for a pretty presentation.

Parents: Kids 5 to 9 years old can use plastic knives for cutting practice, while kids of all ages can put together pretty little bites. Serve them as appetizers or make a complete meal by mixing them up and serving them alongside potato chips.
