N.H. mothers lead anti-bullying effort
After watching their children suffer at the hands of bullies, mothers in the Portsmouth area are working to amend the state's law on pupil safety and violence prevention. The current law, they say, doesn't go far enough.
According to a Seacoastonline.com article, the mothers are working with state representatives to amend the law so that schools must provide anti-bullying training for staff, as well as awareness and prevention programs for students, staff, and parents.
They are also including "information to hold schools accountable for enforcing the law by following a procedure for reporting incidents of bullying or harassment."
The amendment is expected be submitted in the fall, which means it will not be voted on until January 2010. In the meantime, the mothers are trying to get the word out. An informal meeting will be held Wednesday, April 15, at the Lane Library in Hampton. Parents, teachers and interested parties are invited.
