Fun Birthday Party Ideas for Kids

Fun Birthday Party Ideas

You don't need to spend a lot of money or drive somewhere to create a special day or evening for your kids. Kidz Rule USA has a lot of great ideas to create a unique and fun party, right at your own house!

School Vacation Party

Everyone loves time off during school vacation, so what better way for the kids to celebrate than to have friends over to pass the time?  With the kids having the whole day off from school, there's plenty of time to play outside - make a snowman,  go sledding or ice skating .  After the kids have finished one of these great outdoor activities, they can head inside for their favorite movie.  Be sure to have popcorn, snacks and juice handy!

Super Bowl Party

It’s that time of year when your favorite football team kicks off against the opposition for the big title!  Invite your children’s friends over for a day full of touchdowns, field goals, nachos and dip.  What kid doesn’t love nachos? Have them wear their favorite team jersey and be sure to have black eye paint handy.  At the end of the game you can send the children home with a small Nerf football as a party favor to remind them of the big game and the great time they had!

Sledding Party

Winter is the best time to get outside on a sunny day and put your children’s sleds to good use.  Have your children’s friends meet at your house, bundle up, and jump in the car to head to the nearest hill.  Your kids can spend the day sliding down the slopes, getting some exercise and having a blast of a time!  Afterwards, head back to the house for some hot chocolate.  Its affordable fun for everyone and there’s no better fun then sledding on a winter day!

Ice Skating Party

The ice rink is a great way to enjoy a winter party!  This is the perfect time of year to bundle up and do some spins on the ice.  Children can bring their own hockey sticks and pucks and have a game of hockey with their friends.  Afterwards, it’s into the snack shed for some hot chocolate and sandwich to warm up.  Be sure to get a picture on the ice with all their friends, so they remember the day!

Winter Wonderland

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean the kids can't venture outdoors for a winter adventure. Be sure that you indicate on invitations that guests should dress appropriately, meaning bundling up and snow boots, if necessary. This way they can compete in igloo or snow-fort building, sled races, snow-ball tosses, and the other delights of playing out in a winter wonderland. Or you can set up some of the same activities you would for a summer backyard party, including a scavenger hunt or obstacle course. Remember, kids are more forgiving about weather than adults, so they should be tolerant of the frosty conditions. Carry the winter theme throughout the party and indoors if necessary. Serve hot cocoa with whipped cream, warm stew or soup, and other toasty treats to warm up cold revelers.

Beach Bonanza

Feeling hot, hot, hot, even though it's cold outside? Why not host a summer luau or mock beach party indoors? Guests can come with their board shorts or swimsuits and frolic just as if they were at the beach. Tailor summertime activities for indoors, such as table-top volleyball using a foam ball. And have dancing contests to favorite beach tunes. If your birthday boy or girl has his or her heart set on a pool party even though the mercury is dipping, see if you can have a party at a Y.M.C.A. pool or at a local health/fitness center.

Snowman Challenge

What's more fun in the winter than building a snowman? For your snowman challenge, invite a few of your kids' friends over -- enough to make 2 or 3 "building" teams. Be sure to specify in your invitation that you'll be spending much time out in the snow and cold; have kids bring mittens or gloves, snow boots, a scarf, hat and their warmest winter coat. Buy some ribbons at the dollar store or local party store to hand out as prizes. Be sure to have a few twigs (for the arms), carrots (nose), rocks (coal, buttons or Oreos will also do for eyes and mouth) to give your snowman some character. Provide some extra hats, scarfs and mittens to creatively dress up your snowman. After they are finished building the snowmen, judge each one. Prizes can be handed out for biggest snowman, most creative outfit, perfect snow-smile, quickest built snowman, most circular snowballs, happiest-looking snowman, or any other prize you can think of. Every one's snowman will shine somehow. After everyone gets their ribbons it's time to head inside for, yes, you guessed it, hot cocoa! The best part of winter must be warming up with some hot cocoa and marshmallows. Enjoy!
